02 Questions

llms.txt, briefly

What is llms.txt?

A proposed standard (llmstxt.org): a Markdown file at /llms.txt that gives language models a short, clean map of a site: its name, a one-line summary, and the most useful pages grouped under headings.

Does llms.txt help with ChatGPT or Google?

There is no guarantee that any particular assistant reads it, and it does not affect search rankings. Some AI tools and coding assistants do use it, and it takes minutes to add, so it is a small bet with little downside.

Is the generated file ready to publish?

It is a first draft. Rewrite the summary in your own words, remove pages that do not matter, and add a short note after each link saying what the page is for.

How is it different from robots.txt and sitemap.xml?

robots.txt says what crawlers may read, and sitemap.xml lists every page for search engines. llms.txt is a short, human-written guide to the pages that matter most.
