Session recording

Watch real visits, without watching people.

Replay how visitors move, scroll and click on your pages, to find what confuses them. Built so the sensitive parts are never recorded in the first place.

No card neededCookie-free modeIP addresses never stored

Illustration. In visual replay, page text is masked by default and typed values are always masked: you see the layout, scrolling, pointer path and clicks, not the words.
01 Features

Two recording modes

Interaction replay (default)

Records navigation, clicks, scrolling and pointer movement, and replays them over your page. No page content is captured at all.

Full visual replay (opt-in)

Records the page structure so you see exactly what the visitor saw. Switch it on per site when you need it.

Typed values always masked

Anything typed into a form is masked in the browser and masked again on our server, so it cannot be stored even by a modified script.

All page text masked by default

In visual replay every visible word becomes asterisks unless you choose otherwise. Layout, images and clicks stay visible.

You choose what to record

Sample rate, maximum length, retention period, extra masked elements and pages that are never recorded.

Leave elements out entirely

Add data-aia-block to any element and it is never recorded.

02 In practice

Setting it up

01

Switch recordings on

In site settings, enable recordings and choose a sample rate, for example 10% of visits.

02

Choose a mode

Keep interaction-only replay, or turn on visual replay for the pages where you need it.

03

Exclude what is sensitive

List paths like /account or /checkout that should never be recorded.

03 Privacy

Measured, not watched.

Scripts, event handlers, console logs, canvas data and URL query strings are always dropped from recordings. Mention session recording in your privacy notice when you use visual replay.

04 Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is session recording legal?

It can be, when it is configured responsibly and disclosed. The masking, opt-in visual mode and exclusions here make that easier, but check the rules that apply to you.

Are passwords or card numbers recorded?

No. Typed values are masked in every mode, twice: in the browser and on our server.

Does recording slow my site down?

The visual recorder only loads for the share of visits you choose to record, and uploads in small compressed batches.

What cannot be recorded?

Canvas and video frames, cross-origin iframes and closed shadow DOM are not captured in visual replay.
