10 best free Google Search Console alternatives in 2026

Google Search Console is free, but it only shows part of the picture. Here are 10 free tools that fill the gaps or stand in for it, from Bing Webmaster Tools to free site auditors and backlink checkers.

Google Search Console (GSC) is free, official and essential. It is the only place that shows the exact searches, impressions and clicks your site gets from Google, and it is where Google tells you about indexing problems.

It also has clear limits. Data is sampled and capped in places, history is kept for about 16 months, it says nothing about other search engines, it does not crawl your site the way an SEO auditor does, and its backlink report is basic. That is why people look for Google Search Console alternatives.

An honest note before the list: no tool can show Google's own search data except Google. The tools below either do the same job for another search engine, or cover the parts GSC does not. Used together with GSC, they give you a far more complete picture.

The short answer

  • Closest like-for-like alternative: Bing Webmaster Tools.
  • Free site audit and backlinks for your own site: Ahrefs Webmaster Tools.
  • Crawl your site like a search engine: Screaming Frog SEO Spider (free up to 500 URLs).
  • Page speed and Core Web Vitals: PageSpeed Insights.
  • Traffic and conversions from organic search: Google Analytics 4, or any analytics tool that reports organic landing pages.

Free plans and limits change often, so check each provider's current terms.

1. Bing Webmaster Tools

What it is: Microsoft's equivalent of Search Console, and the closest true alternative.

What you get: search performance (queries, impressions, clicks, positions), URL inspection, sitemap submission, indexing reports, a site scan for SEO issues, backlink data and keyword research. You can sign in and import your verified sites straight from Google Search Console in a few clicks.

Why it matters more than it used to: Bing's index also powers results in other products, including Microsoft Copilot and, in part, ChatGPT's web search. Being healthy in Bing is now part of being visible in AI answers. Bing also supports IndexNow, which lets you notify it of changed pages instantly.

Limits: it only covers Bing, not Google.

2. Ahrefs Webmaster Tools

What it is: a free version of Ahrefs for sites you can prove you own.

What you get: a full Site Audit that checks for over a hundred technical SEO issues, plus Site Explorer for your own site: the backlinks pointing to you, referring domains, and the keywords you rank for in Ahrefs' own index.

Limits: it only works for verified sites, so you cannot research competitors. Keyword and ranking data come from Ahrefs' estimates, not from Google.

Best for: the backlink and technical audit work that GSC barely covers.

3. Screaming Frog SEO Spider

What it is: a desktop crawler that walks through your site the way a search engine does.

What you get: broken links, redirect chains, missing or duplicate titles and descriptions, canonical problems, blocked pages, image issues and more, exported to spreadsheets. The free version crawls up to 500 URLs per crawl.

Limits: it is a desktop app, the free version skips features such as saving crawls and JavaScript rendering, and the interface is built for SEO specialists.

Best for: finding the technical problems behind GSC's indexing warnings on small and medium sites.

4. PageSpeed Insights (and Lighthouse)

What it is: Google's free page speed tool, with Lighthouse built into Chrome's developer tools.

What you get: Core Web Vitals from real Chrome users (where enough data exists) plus a lab test with specific recommendations. GSC tells you which pages have Core Web Vitals problems; PageSpeed Insights tells you why.

Limits: one URL at a time, and lab scores vary between runs.

Best for: fixing the page experience issues GSC flags.

5. Google Analytics 4

What it is: Google's free web analytics. It is not a search console, but it answers the question GSC cannot: what search visitors do after they arrive.

What you get: landing pages, engagement and conversions for organic search traffic. You can link GSC to GA4 to see query and landing-page data side by side.

Limits: it uses cookies, and visitors who decline consent are missing from the numbers.

Best for: connecting rankings to signups and sales. Any analytics tool that separates organic search by landing page, including privacy-first ones, can do this job.

6. Yandex Webmaster

What it is: Yandex's free webmaster console.

What you get: indexing status, search queries, sitemap and robots.txt checks, and site diagnostics for Yandex search.

Limits: only relevant if a meaningful share of your audience uses Yandex.

Best for: sites targeting Russian-speaking countries.

7. Semrush (free account)

What it is: a well-known paid SEO suite with a free account.

What you get: a small number of keyword, domain and backlink lookups per day, plus a limited site audit and position tracking for one project.

Limits: the daily caps are tight, so it suits occasional checks rather than everyday work.

Best for: quick competitor and keyword research that GSC cannot do.

8. Moz (free account)

What it is: Moz's SEO tools, with free access to Link Explorer and Keyword Explorer.

What you get: a limited number of backlink and keyword queries each month, plus Moz's Domain Authority score.

Limits: the free quota is small and Domain Authority is Moz's own metric, not something Google uses.

Best for: a second opinion on your backlinks.

9. Ubersuggest (free)

What it is: a beginner-friendly SEO tool with a free tier.

What you get: a few keyword, domain and audit searches per day, with simple explanations.

Limits: very restricted daily usage; most features need a paid plan.

Best for: beginners who want keyword ideas presented simply.

10. Seobility (free plan)

What it is: a website auditor with a free plan for one small project.

What you get: an on-page and technical audit of a limited number of pages, a basic ranking check for a few keywords, and a backlink overview.

Limits: sized for small sites; larger sites need a paid plan.

Best for: small business sites that want a regular health check.

How to combine them

A practical free setup that covers almost everything:

  1. Google Search Console for Google queries, indexing and Core Web Vitals warnings.
  2. Bing Webmaster Tools for Bing, Copilot and the search engines that rely on Bing's index.
  3. Ahrefs Webmaster Tools or Screaming Frog for technical audits and backlinks.
  4. PageSpeed Insights to fix the pages GSC flags as slow.
  5. An analytics tool to see which organic landing pages actually convert.

The part search consoles do not cover: AI assistants

Search consoles report on search engines. More and more visitors now arrive from AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini instead, and none of the tools above show that traffic clearly. Our guides explain how to track ChatGPT traffic in any analytics tool and how to see AI crawlers in your server logs.

Our own analytics gives AI assistants their own channel, compares how those visitors convert with organic search, and counts AI crawlers from your server logs. It is a paid product with a 30-day trial rather than a free tool, so it is not in the list above. You can read about AI traffic analytics or start a trial.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free alternative that shows Google's search queries?

Only Google Search Console shows Google's real query, impression and click data. Third-party tools estimate rankings from their own databases. Google Analytics can display Search Console data once the two are linked, but it is still Search Console's data.

Is Bing Webmaster Tools worth using if most of my traffic is from Google?

Yes. It is free, takes minutes to set up by importing from Search Console, and Bing's index is also used by other search and AI products. Its site scan and backlink reports often surface issues that are useful for Google too.

What is the best free SEO audit tool?

For your own site, Ahrefs Webmaster Tools gives the most complete free audit. Screaming Frog's free version is excellent for sites up to 500 URLs and gives you more control over the crawl.

It has a basic Links report with top linking sites and pages. For anchor text detail, new and lost links and link history, use Ahrefs Webmaster Tools, Bing Webmaster Tools or Moz.

How long does Google Search Console keep data?

Performance data covers roughly the last 16 months. If you need longer history, export it regularly or store it in another tool.
